Sunday the 29th of December 2019 in our parish was marked by celebrating the 30th anniversary of retrieving St Bartholomew Church in Drohobych. The observance was lead by bishop Edward Kawa (delegated by the metropolitan archbishop of Lviv – Mieczysław Mokrzycki), parson Mirosław Lech, Father Jerzy Raszkowski, Father Wawrzyniec Iwańczuk O.H. The church was filled with members of our and neighbouring congregations.
The bishop was received by those involved in attempts at the restitution of the church under the Soviet administration: Janina and Adam Chłopek, Agnieszka Zazimko, Zofia Tomaszewska and Michalina Mitek. Underground operation of the parish, persecution and detention of the late father Bernard Mickiewicz, as well as liturgical observances in private houses behind closed curtains while the Soviet government closed the church down were emotionally reminisced.
